Kendal Town Council were very pleased that the Society had offered to restore the Saracen and have had it taken down from its perch on the wall of Gawith and Hoggarth’s old snuff factory in Lowther Street. It is now in the hands of Norman Holloway who is doing the restoration and re-painting work and we hope to see it back in position shortly. We have written to the SLDC Planning Dept. suggesting that a proviso in any future planning application for the old snuff factory, should be that the Saracen remains in-situ as part of Kendal’s history.
